Mary Kohnke - Learning Lab

Mary has been teaching children in some capacity most of her adult life. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1973 with a degree in psychology/sociology with an emphasis in child development. She was an at-home mom where she ran her pre-school for seven years. When her third child entered first grade, she returned to school to follow her lifelong passion of preserving children's innate spirits and teaching the whole child. She is one of nine teachers in Idaho certified by the International Dyslexia Society to teach using the Slingerland Method. She is a certified secondary social science teacher and a K-12 Special Education teacher. She has a Masters in Special Education with a major focus in learning disabilities and a minor in counseling. She mentored under Helen Mabbutt-Adams, Idaho's pioneer special educator, and in 1989, they established A+ Adams & Associates.

Mary brings 22 years of private practice experience to her role as a Special Education teacher with the Sage team. Her philosophy of educating the whole child is a natural fit with Sage's mission to educate students who will create a better, more peaceful world.

To stay balanced, Mary enjoys time and adventures with her family and her girlfriends, whitewater rafting-both as a guest and as a kid wrangler, tent/yurt/cabin camping, hiking, scuba diving, dancing, riding her bike, and reading. Mary and her husband Bob will celebrate their 40th anniversary in September 2012. They have three grown children and two grandchildren.
